Soon after abstinence, many recovering people think that they are so much better that it was easy to get sober and clean. They did not remember the suffering and, used to the old way of thinking that they 'didn't have to work', they go back to active addiction. There is a sense of entitlement along with a lack of gratitude that prevents the person from staying sober and clean.
